A fear of witnesses, but nevertheless, a need to share

Why start a blog now?

Honestly, my little brother has been inspiring me in so many aspects of creativity lately. For a while, I kept finding myself looking at creating websites where I could share my work and my thoughts, but not really landing on anything. I saw my brother’s first blog post with an incredible flow of words about whatever he felt like talking about. Is that what I have been looking for??? We’ll find out

An expression of self

Self-expression is key to me as a person who is not very outgoing. I express myself through my clothes, my gifts, and my actions because I am not always able to express myself out loud. Sometimes I spend entire days not saying much and not leaving the house other than to walk my dog. I used to be great at socialising and now I would not know where to start. Would a blog help me with my words? Would a blog organise my thoughts? Maybe.

Even as I write this, I hesitate to publish…

The idea of sharing this with people in my life scares me, even though it is just a harmless collection of thoughts. I have never really opened up like this before. Strangely, my university professor has seen deeper into my mind through my projects than my own family ever has. For as long as I can remember, I have assumed what people think or feel about me. How do I move past that? How do I get over this hurdle so I can finally share without fear?

I think it’s human to fear judgement. To be afraid that if you put an idea out there, you might be put down, or laughed at, or misunderstood. All my life I’ve been an artist, I’ve wanted to share what I create and wish that someone is around to want to see it. I’ve always wanted to create deep and insightful things, but have been afraid that it might come off as trying too hard, or just not be as clever as I want it to be. If I never take the first step, how will I ever get better at thinking and writing with depth?
